Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall fell 10-7 to Washington College in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Diplomats dropped to 3-6, 1-2 CC while the Shoremen improved to 4-5, 3-0 CC.
Washington jumped on the board first with a score 2:28 into action before Sean Rogers buried a pass from Ben Ross at 5:07 and tied the game at 1-1. Washington answered with a goal two minutes later and Rogers returned the favor with a little under minute to go in the first with a feed to Ross to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the first.
David McBrien put Washington up 3-2 early in the third and the Diplomats countered three minutes later when Rogers connected with Michael Bossidy at 9:47 to tie the game at 3-3. Washington responded with three straight goals in 1:24 of action and went up 6-3 before Chad Gamble netted back-to-back sores to bring F&M within one, 6-5, at 1:22. As the quarter was set to expire, Sam Birnbaum snuck one through for the Shoremen with one tick on the clock to give Washington a 7-5 advantage at the break.
The Shoremen went up 8-5 early in the third, but Michael Bossidy found Ross late in the quarter to bring F&M within two. Tanner Barbieri answered with two goals heading into the fourth to make it 10-6 and Wesley Rhudy found John Barney at 7:11 for the final tally.
Chad Gamble and Ben Ross both finished with two goals while Michael Bossidy, Sean Rogers and John Barney all scored once. Rogers handed out two assists and Bossidy along with Ross and Rhudy all ended with one helper.
Connor Melillo caused two turnovers to pace the defense, Chad Gamble collected a team-high six ground balls and Mike Sanzone went 7-for-19 from the X.
Timothy Mattessich took the loss with 14 saves and dropped to 3-6 while Jackson Szurley picked up the win with six stops and improved to 4-3.
F&M returns to action next Saturday when the Diplomats travel to McDaniel for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
