Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Michael Bossidy scored three goals and handed out two assists to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 15-6 win over Swarthmore Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action. The Diplomats improved to 6-6, 3-2 CC while the Garnet dropped to 6-5, 1-4 CC.
Swarthmore struck first 50 seconds into the game for the early advantage, but the Diplomats answered with an 8-1 run and took the lead for good. Philip Gamble found Bossidy at 11:52 for the first tally before Bossidy fed John Barney 46 seconds later to put the Diplomats up 2-1. Ben Ross scored at 9:01 before Bossidy and Gamble hooked up again at 3:50 to make it 4-1. Chad Gamble made it 5-1 at 2:27 and Bossidy found Barney with just eight ticks on the clock to make it 6-1 at the end of the first.
The scoring slowed down in the second as the defenses settled in. Sean Rogers buried a pass from P. Gamble and Read Ziegler made it 8-1 at 3:14 for the Diplomats. The Garnet put the last points on the board in first half with a score at 1:03 to make it 8-2 at the break.
F&M opened up the third with three goals in the first six minutes of action and took an 11-2 lead. Mike Wasik fed Chad Gamble at 12:09 to start things off before Nicholas Drapanas found Bossidy two minutes later for the second score. Rogers assisted Barney to end the run and the Garnet scored with 1:02 left in the third to make it 11-3.
The Diplomats opened the fourth, the same way they started the third, with three goals. Philip Gamble struck at 12:14 to get things started and Read Ziegler made it 13-3 with an unassisted score a few minutes later. Drapanas picked up his second assist when he found Mike Rama for the third goal of the run. Swarthmore responded by outscoring F&M 3-1 in the final eights minutes of action.
Nick Wells paced the defense with five caused turnovers while Drapanas, Connor Melillo and Timothy Mattessich each caused two turnovers for the Diplomats. Mike Sanzone went 7-for-15 from the X with three ground balls and Mattessich picked up the win for F&M with three saves and improved to 6-6.
F&M outshot Swarthmore 41-25, forced 21 turnovers and went 15-for-20 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Lynchburg at 4:00 p.m.
