Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall suffered a 10-8 setback to second-ranked Gettysburg in men's lacrosse action Wednesday evening at Tylus Field. The Diplomats dropped to 7-8, 4-3 CC while the Bullets remained unbeaten on the season at 14-0 with a 7-0 record in the conference.
The Bullets' head coach Hank Janczyk became just the second coach in NCAA history – all divisions – to reach the 400-win plateau.
The Diplomats jumped on the board early and took a 2-0 lead six minutes into the contest. Philip Gamble got things going when he buried a pass from Michael Bossidy at 9:59 and Sean Rogers finished off a pass from Chad Gamble 36 seconds later for the 2-0 advantage. Gettysburg answered with two straight and tied the game at 2-2 heading into the second.
F&M rattled off four goals and dominated the second quarter. Rogers netted an unassisted goal to start the run, before Bossidy picked up three straight assists for the Diplomats. The first happened at 9:36 when Bossidy fed Ben Ross before Rogers picked up his second score at 6:34 and Chad Gamble made it 6-2 with 3:20 left in the second. The Bullets countered with two goals in the final 1:24 of action to make it 6-4 at the break.
Gettysburg continued its run at the start of third and kept the Diplomats off the board in the third quarter. The Bullets finished off their five-goal run with a tally at 11:11. Philip Gamble tied the game at 7-7 with 8:35 left to play, before the Bullets rattled off two goals in under a minute and took a 9-7 edge with a little over five minutes left to play. Chad Gamble made it a one-goal game with an unassisted tally at 2:53.
The Diplomats had a few opportunities in the final minutes of action, forcing a turnover after the ensuing faceoff and fired off a shot that hit the post. The teams traded turnovers and F&M appeared to have final possession, but turned the ball over with 30 seconds left and the Bullets took advantage with the final goal of the contest.
Rogers paced the offense with three goals while Philip Gamble and Chad Gamble both finished with a pair and Ross added a tally. Michael Bossidy dished out four assists and Chad Gamble had one.
Connor Melillo and Chad Gamble each finished with three caused turnovers and four ground balls to pace the defense, while Nicholas Zenobio, Mike Sanzone and Wesley Rhudy ball scooped up three ground balls.
F&M held a 27-25 edge in shots and went 11-for-12 in clear attempts while the Bullets had a slight lead in ground balls, 32-30, and won 13-of-22 faceoffs.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M travels to Dickinson for a 3:00 p.m contest. The winner of the game will earn a spot in next week's CC playoffs.
