Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall used a 9-0 run to outscore Ursinus 21-13 in the fourth quarter and claim a 62-54 victory on Tuesday night in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball. The Diplomats improved to 6-17, 4-12 CC with the win while the Bears fell to 10-12, 9-7 CC.
Tied at 41 after the third quarter, Ursinus scored the first two points of the fourth period to take a 43-41 lead. However, five points from Sarah Haddon keyed a 9-0 F&M response that gave the Diplomats their biggest advantage of the night at 50-43 with 5:48 left in the game. The Bears would never get back within six as the Diplomats hit 10 free throws in the remaining minutes, including five makes from Erica Brown, to hold on for the win.
F&M's late momentum was a continuation of the game's early minutes. The Diplomats jumped out to leads of 4-0 and 8-2 on the back of four points from Haddon, only to see the Bears close out the quarter on an 11-2 run. After one, Ursinus led 16-12.
A three from AnnMarie DiCarlo returned the lead to F&M, going ahead 17-16 with 8:19 left in the opening half. The Bears responded by putting together an 8-0 run that gave them a 30-22 lead at the break.
F&M slowly erased the deficit in the third, getting threes from Lindsey Powers and Haley Pilone late in the period to tie the game at 41 heading into the fourth. Seven points from Sarah Pisani helped the Diplomats outscore Ursinus 19-11 in the third period.
Brown led F&M with 17 points, while Haddon added 14 and Pisani tallied a career-high 13 for the Diplomats.
Haddon completed her double-double by pulling in 15 rebounds, while Powers collected 13.
Jessica Porada was the only Bear to reach double-digits, recording 20 points on the night.
F&M returns to action tomorrow night when Gettysburg visits the Mayser Center at 6:00 p.m for the "Play 4 Kay" game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink as the Diplomats raise awareness for breast cancer.
