Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 2 Lynchburg outscored Franklin & Marshall 4-1 in the fourth quarter to propel the Hornets to a 13-10 victory in the season opener for the Diplomats. F&M fell to 0-1 while Lynchburg improved to 1-1.
The Hornets took an early 2-0 lead three minutes into the contest before the Diplomats answered with three straight to take a 3-2 edge at the end of the first quarter. Sean Rogers found Tucker McBride at 10:24 for the first goal and Teddy Bossidy hooked up with Rogers at 7:18 before connecting with Owen Toland at 1:17 for the other two tallies.
Lynchburg struck twice in the opening minutes of the second to go back on top, 4-3, at 10:32. F&M countered with two of their own and held a 5-4 edge at the midway point. Mike Wasik netted the first goal and Rogers scored the Diplomats second goal. Lynchburg responded with two straight and took a 6-5 lead into the break.
Austin Stewart put the Hornets up 7-5 1:19 into the third and the Diplomats came back and struck twice to tie the game at 7-7 with goals from Rogers and Wasik. The Hornets pick up another pair of goals and the Diplomats answered again with two of their own to make it 9-9 heading into the final frame. Mike Rama tallied the first goal and Rogers buried a pass from George Briggs for the second.
The Hornets dominated the fourth and outscored F&M 4-1 to secure the win. Billy Schwartz scored the lone goal for the Diplomats.
Rogers finished with four goals and an assist and Wasik ended with a pair of scores. Rama, Schwartz, Toland, McBride all scored once and John Sommi along with Briggs had an assist while T. Bossidy ended with two helpers.
Nick Well caused three turnovers and collected four ground balls and Nick Zenobio along with Wes Rhudy both had two ground balls. Thomas Moore took the loss in the case with eight saves and dropped to 0-1 and Chris Hawley picked up the win with 11 stops.
Austin Stewart led the way for Lynchburg with six goals and Colin McGuire netted two and handed out three assists.
F&M outshot Lynchburg 42-36, held a 14-12 edge in turnovers and went 12-for-15 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M faces St. Lawrence at New Canaan H.S. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
