Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – A 3-0 run in the second quarter powered Franklin & Marshall to a 10-6 victory over Lebanon Valley on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action. The Diplomats improved to 5-2 with the victory, their fifth in a row, while the Dutchmen fell to 3-2.
Up 3-2 after one quarter of play, F&M got goals from Brendan Kenavan, Shane McBride, and George Briggs in the first 11 minutes of the second to take a 6-2 lead with 4:11 left in the half. Lebanon Valley stopped the run when Baker Landon cut the deficit to 6-3 with 22 seconds left in the quarter, but the Diplomats answered with a goal from Sean Rogers with four seconds remaining to carry a 7-3 lead into the break.
The Dutchmen struck first in the second half, getting a goal from Brett Kudlak at 14:18. However, a pair of unassisted tallies from F&M's Mike Wasik extended the Diplomat advantage to 9-4 entering the final frame.
A pair of goals from Lebanon Valley shortened the lead to 9-6 with 5:12 left, but the F&M defense held stout the rest of the way, holding the Dutchmen goalless in the remaining minutes. Wasik completed his hat trick on an open-net goal with 44 seconds left, and the Diplomats coasted to the 10-6 win.
Wasik added an assist to his three goals to lead the F&M offense. Michael Bossidy and Briggs both finished with a pair of tallies and an assist in the victory.
Mike Sanzone went 15-for-20 on faceoffs and collected nine ground balls for the Diplomats, while Anthony Dougherty picked up three grounders and caused two turnovers to lead the defense. Wes Rhudy came up with six ground balls and caused one turnover as well.
Thomas Moore recorded seven saves to pick up the win for F&M, moving his record to 5-2 on the year. Cameron Epple (3-2) took the loss for Lebanon Valley, recording nine saves.
The Diplomats return to action in one week when Scranton comes to town on Wednesday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m.
