Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall closed out the first half with a 4-0 run en route to a 13-9 victory over Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon in men's lacrosse action. The Diplomats improved to 2-2 with the victory while the Generals fell to 2-2.
W&L finally made its way onto the scoreboard with 7:54 left in the second quarter after falling behind F&M 3-0. The Diplomats did not let the Generals gather any momentum, using goals from George Briggs, Shane McBride, Brendan Kenavan, and Mike Rama to put together a 4-0 run and take a commanding 7-1 advantage into halftime.
The deficit came despite a slow offensive start from F&M, with Mike Wasik recording the only Diplomat goal of the opening quarter. However, a stout F&M defense and goals from Kenavan and Rama early in the second allowed the Diplomats to take firm control with the decisive run to end the half.
The third quarter looked set to feature more Diplomat dominance when Michael Bossidy scored with a slick effort over his right shoulder just 57 seconds into the period, but the Generals showed signs of life throughout the frame. The teams traded goals for the duration of the quarter, eventually tallying a 4-4 tie in the quarter, and F&M maintained an 11-5 lead entering the fourth.
A W&L goal with 13:55 left in the game brought the Generals to within five, but the Diplomats responded with goals from Rama and Bossidy to take a 13-6 edge. W&L ended the game on a 3-0 run, but were unable to threaten the F&M lead as the Diplomats coasted to the 13-9 victory.
Rama led the F&M offense, tallying four goals and an assist on the day. Bossidy, Wasik, and Kenavan all recorded a pair of scores, while Sean Rogers scored a goal and passed out three helpers.
Anthony Dougherty paced the defense with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers. Read Ziegler picked up six ground balls for the Diplomats, and Wes Rhudy contributed a pair of ground balls and three caused turnovers to the defensive effort.
Thomas Moore got credit for the win after recording eight saves, while W&L's Wyatt Devine tallied four saves in the defeat.
F&M returns to Tylus Field on Wednesday, hosting Albright at 4:00 p.m.
