Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. –- With 2:42 left in overtime, Sean Rogers took a pass from Harry Rice and fired the ball to the top corner of the net to deliver Franklin & Marshall a 9-8 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. With the win F&M improved to 10-3, 4-1 CC while the Garnet fell to 7-5, 2-3 CC.
F&M struggled to possess the ball early in the game, and Swarthmore took advantage, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the opening quarter. The Diplomats countered with a four-goal quarter of their own and tied the game at 4-4 heading into the break.
Michael Bossidy buried a pass from George Briggs early in the second to get the run started, and Teddy Bossidy found Rogers 34 seconds later to make it 4-2 at 10:20. A little over a minute later, Tucker McBride fed Mike Rama, before Rama found M. Bossidy with under a minute left to make it 4-4.
The Diplomats continued the run when Mike Wasik struck unassisted early in the third to put F&M up 5-4. Swarthmore tied the game at 9:25 and Rogers assisted Rama at 5:59 to put F&M back on top. The Garnet answered again, scoring at 3:17 to tie the game at 6-6 heading into the final frame.
Rama put the Diplomats back out front early in the fourth, before Cam Marsh tallied for Swarthmore with 4:44 left and tied the game. Two minutes later, Rogers found twine to make it 8-7 with 2:22 on the clock, but the Garnet answered yet again with a score at the one-minute mark to send the game into the extra frame.
The Diplomats won the faceoff in overtime, and the offense took it from there with the game-winner 1:18 later.
Rama and Rogers paced the offense with three goals and one assist each while Michael Bossidy finished with two scores. Wasik struck once and Teddy Bossidy, McBride and Briggs all had an assist.
Michael Bossidy added four ground balls and Anthony Dougherty paced the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Nick Zenobio and Rogers both finished with three ground balls for F&M.
Scott Hatch picked up his first collegiate win with six saves and Cole Fox took the loss after turning away 13 shots.
F&M outshot Swarthmore 42-24, 27-9 in the second half, held a 26-16 edge in ground balls and went 7-for-10 on clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M travels to Haverford.
