Bossidy Leads Diplomats over Shoremen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Michael Bossidy scored six goals and handed out an assist to lead Franklin & Marshall to an 11-8 victory over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The win marked the first-ever victory for F&M in Chestertown as the Diplomats improved to 8-3, 2-1 CC while the Shoremen dropped to 6-4, 2-1 CC. 

Washington went on the board first with an early tally before the Diplomats answered with a Michael Bossidy-led 4-0 run. Bossidy tallied three in the spurt, starting the run with a score off a feed from George Briggs with a little less than four minutes left in the first quarter. Sean Rogers put F&M up 2-1 towards the end of the opening quarter and found Bossidy with 17 ticks on the clock for the third goal.

Bossidy finished off the run with an unassisted tally early in the second, before Washington netted two straight to come within one, 4-3, at 2:59 in the second. Mike Rama put the Diplomats back up two when he finished off a feed from Bossidy and gave F&M a 5-3 edge at the break.

The Shoremen scored early in the third and came within one, 5-4, but F&M answered a little over a minute later when Brendan Kenavan found Rama at 11:19. Washington again came within a point, before the Diplomats netted back-to-back goals and took an 8-5 lead with 6:28 left in the third. Rama found Bossidy for the first score and Rogers struck 30 seconds later for the second tally.

Washington responded with a three-goal spurt and tied the game at 8-8 1:44 into the final frame. The Diplomats countered with a 3-0 run of their to close out the game and seal the victory. Kenavan picked up his second assist when he found Harry Rice six minutes into the fourth quarter, and Bossidy made it 10-8 with a goal at 5:25. Bossidy picked up the final score of the game when he buried a pass from Rice with a little under four minutes left to play.

Bossidy had six goals on seven shots and an assist while Rama and Rogers both finished with two goals and one helper. Rice had a goal and an assist, Kenavan dished out two dimes and Briggs finished with an assist for F&M.

Tommy O'Connor and Wes Rhudy both caused three turnovers each to pace the defense and Rhudy came away with a game-high six ground balls. Read Zeigler and Rama both had four ground balls, and Andrew Rose went 7-for-10 from the X.

Thomas Moore picked up the win with seven stops and improved to 8-3 and Ben Flood took the loss with 10 stops.

F&M held a 36-32 edge in ground balls, went 20-for-21 in clear attempts and forced 15 turnovers in the game.

The Diplomats returns to action on Saturday when F&M hosts McDaniel at 1:00 p.m.
