Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – No.7 Gettysburg downed Franklin & Marshall 13-5 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. F&M fell to 11-4, 5-2 CC while the Bullets improved to 11-2, 7-0 CC and locked up the top seed in next week's CC Playoffs.
F&M jumped out to an early lead with two goals in the first 1:44 of action. George Briggs struck first with an unassisted tally at 14:34 and then found Sean Rogers under a minute later for a 2-0 F&M edge. Gettysburg countered with an 8-0 run over the next fifteen minutes of action and took the lead for good.
Tucker McBride fed Mike Rama with 3:53 left in the second quarter to make it 8-3 before the Bullets tacked on one more for a 9-3 advantage at the break.
Gettysburg continued to dominate in the third with three straight for a 12-3 lead. Brendan Kenavan stopped the run when he found Rogers early in the fourth and the Bullets put another point on the board with 6:46 left to play. Riley Aviles tallied the final score of the game with an unassisted tally at 2:58.
Rogers finished with two goals and is now two points from reaching 100-career points and Briggs finished with a goal and an assist. Rama and Aviles each scored once and Kenavan added an assist.
Tommy O'Connor and Anthony Dougherty caused two turnovers each and Wes Rhudy finished with a team-high five ground balls. Mike Sanzone went 11-for-20 from the X for the Diplomats.
Scott Hatch took the loss in goal with seven stops and dropped to 2-1 and Jake Adoni picked up the win with six saves for the Bullets.
F&M went 15-for-16 in clear attempts and held a 23-22 edge in ground balls.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M hosts Dickinson at 3:00 p.m.
