Diplomats Down Gettysburg; Granahan Breaks Centennial Sack Record

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall defeated Gettysburg 34-10 in the regular-season finale to retain the Lincoln Trophy. The Diplomats improved to 7-3, 6-3 CC, while the Bullets fell to 1-9, 1-8 CC. The Diplomats have a chance of making the CC-MAC Bowl series if Muhlenberg receives an at-large to the NCAA Tournament.

Joe Granahan finished with six tackles and 1.5 sacks to bring his career sack total to 34.5, breaking the school and Centennial mark of 33.5, held my C.T. Marsh '12. 

F&M set the tone early when Tanner Erisman found K.J. Pretty for a 71-yard touchdown on the first play of the game for an early 7-0 lead. Gettysburg countered on their next possession and tied the game at 7-7 with 10:25 left in the first. 

The Diplomats answered with an 8-play, 69-yard drive that took 4:44 off the clock and was capped off when Joe Hartley-Vittoria found pay dirt from 14 yards out to put the Diplomats ahead for good 14-7 heading into the second.

Gettysburg tacked on three early in the second to come within four, 14-10, at 13:42 in the second. F&M went ahead 11 points, when K.J. Boston returned a fumble 15 yards to make it 21-10, which stood as the halftime score.

Neither team scored in the third and the Diplomats closed out the game with 13 unanswered points in the final quarter. The first score came off an Erisman to Pretty 4-yard touchdown pass that finished off an 8-play, 28-yard drive. F&M put the final points of the game on the board with a little less than three minutes left when Erisman and Pretty connected again, this time for a 35-yard score.  

F&M outgained Gettysburg 332-147, holding the Bullets to under 100 yards in both passing (81) and rushing (61).

Tanner Erisman completed 13-of-23 passes for 233 yards and three passes. Joe Hartley-Vittoria racked up 90 yards on 22 rushes with a score and K.J. Pretty ended with 146 yards on six grabs and three touchdowns. 

Bobby McDevitt led the defense with eight stops, including three for a loss and half a sack, Marlen Fenstermacher had seven tackles and Brendan Kilkenny had six tackles including a sack. Thomas Hourican and Justin Brown both had a sack for the Diplomats.
