Diplomats Fall Short to Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – No. 4 Gettysburg defeated No. 10 Franklin & Marshall 16-12 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. The Diplomats fell to 7-2, 1-1 CC while the Bullets improved to 9-1 with a 2-0 mark in CC play.

F&M took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Harry Rice and Luke Keating. Gettysburg answered with three straight to go ahead 3-2 heading into the second. The Diplomats countered with two of off shots from Mollihan and Sean Rogers and went ahead 4-3 at 14:12 in the second.

The Bullets answered four minutes later with a three-goal spurt and took the lead for good, 6-4, with 7:15 left until halftime. Rogers brought F&M within a point, 6-5, but Gettysburg closed out the half with a pair for an 8-5 lead at the break.

Mollihan and Keating scored two minutes apart early in the third to bring F&M within a goal 8-7, at 9:59. Gettysburg quickly went up two before Rogers found twine at 6:53 to make it 8-7. Two goals from Gettysburg put the host up 11-8 and the Bullets answered a Mollihan goal with one of their own seconds later to take a 12-9 lead into the final frame.

Gettysburg increased their lead to 14-9 four minutes into the game and the Diplomats answered with another Mollihan-Keating pair of goals to come within three, 14-11, with 6:24 left to play.  The Bullets put two through in the final six minutes with Mollihan getting his fifth in between those scores.

Kevin Mollihan led all scorers with five goals and handed out an assist, Luke Keating finished with three scores and a pair of helpers while Sean Rogers picked up the hat trick. Harry Rice had a goal and two assists, George Briggs added two assists and Tucker McBride finished the game with one dime.

Scott Hatch took the loss with four saves and fell to 7-2 while Tim Brady improved to 9-1 with nine stops.

Gettysburg held a 41-33 edge in shots and had a slight 16-of-30 edge in face-offs.

The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M travels to Haverford for a 3:00 p.m. game.
