Diplomats Secure Playoff Spot with Win at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. — No. 16 Franklin & Marshall withstood a late fourth-quarter surge to defeat No. 15 Dickinson 15-13 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action. The win secures a spot in the CC Playoffs as F&M improved to 11-4, 6-1 CC. The Red Devils fell to 10-5, 4-3 CC.

Dickinson jumped out to a 3-0 lead three minutes into the game and F&M netted back-to-back goals to come within one, 3-2, with 5:16 left in the first. The Red Devils netted two straight and F&M put one on the board with 31 ticks on the clock to come within two, 5-3, heading into the second.  Dickinson went up 6-3 early in the second, and the Diplomats answered with three straight to tie the game, 6-6, at the break. 

F&M took a two-goal lead, 8-6, 1:36 into the second, before Dickinson came within one, 9-8, at 8:35. The Diplomats answered with a 5-0 run for a 14-8 lead and a Dickinson goal made with 14-9 heading into the final frame. F&M struck early in the fourth for a 15-9 advantage and the Red Devils made a late surge with four unanswered goals the remainder of the fourth, but could not close the gap.

Kevin Mollihan had five goals and Luke Keating finished with three scores with one assist. George Briggs handed out three assists with one goal and Blake Target ended with a goal and an assist. Nick Crennan, A.J. Rigsby, Tucker McBride, and Andrew Fine all scored once. 

Jarrett Donaghy caused two turnovers with two ground balls to lead the defense and Doug Mongiardo finished with four ground balls. Luke Mutterer improved to 7-1 with six saves.

Shots were even at 33-33, with F&M holding a 25-18 edge in ground balls, while going 18-for-20 in clear attempts. 

F&M returns to action on Saturday when F&M hosts Muhlenberg at 3:00 p.m. A win over the Mules will lock up the top seed in the CC Playoffs next week.
