MADISON, N.J. - The Franklin & Marshall No. 10 field hockey team came out on top with a close 2-0 win over FDU-Florham Wednesday evening in non-conference competition.
The Diplomats advanced to 2-0 on the season, while the Devils suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 2-1.
F&M's offense struggled to get on the board early, going scoreless for the first 22 minutes of action. A penalty stroke conversion by Kat Horsley gave F&M the first score of the game in the 23rd minute.
The score remained 1-0 through third quarter, but F&M's Lily Mynott found the back of the net off of a rebound in the 55th minute of action. Mynott's third goal of the year gave the Diplomats some much-appreciated insurance for the final five minutes of play.
The Diplomats were able to put heavy pressure on the FDU-Florham defense throughout the game, sending 16 shot attempts at the Devils' goalkeeper Megan March. March saved nine F&M shot attempts.
Goalkeeper Christina Seery (2-0) did not face much traffic as she saved two shots en route to her second career win in as many starts.
F&M plays its next game on Wednesday, Sept. 11th when the Diplomats face Lebanon Valley on the road at 7:00 PM.
