Baltimore, Md. – Franklin & Marshall's women's basketball program lost a 58-47 game against Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday night. The Diplomats fell to 5-9, 3-6 CC while the Blue Jays improved to 9-5, 6-3 CC.
After trading short runs for much of the opening period, F&M picked up an early edge when Alisyn Narracci buried a pair of free throws to take a 16-12 lead with 1:56 left. The Blue Jays responded with four unanswered points over the final two minutes to tie the score at 16 points apiece entering the second.
The second stanza was reminiscent of the first, as F&M traded baskets with Johns Hopkins. Neither team held a lead larger than three points as the quarter saw three lead changes. An Emily Howie three-pointer handed the Blue Jays a 30-29 lead entering the break.
The third quarter proved problematic for F&M. The Blue Jays recorded 16 points across the frame while holding the Diplomats to just three. F&M's lone field goal came on a Kristin Hamill layup at 3:44. Johns Hopkins led 46-34 after three periods. The Diplomats collectively shot 1-for-10 in the quarter.
F&M quickly closed the gap back to eight points, 46-38, with a Sarosha Parsons layup and a 2-for-2 showing at the line from Kenna Williams in the first two minutes. The Blue Jays, however, answered with a 10-4 run to take their largest lead of the contest, 56-42, with 2:50 to go. The Diplomats outscored Johns Hopkins the rest of the way, 5-2, but never cut the deficit back to single digits before the final buzzer sounded.
Williams led all scorers with 13 points while also picking up a game-high 13 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the year.
Maia Lockhart scored nine points, her season-high, while Hamill and Parsons each chipped in with eight points.
Narracci knocked down all four of her free-throw attempts. The sophomore is 19-for-19 at the stripe on the season.
Johns Hopkins out-rebounded, 41-34, and out-shot F&M from behind the arc. The Blue Jays buried 4-of-13 (30.8 percent) while the Diplomats were unable to convert from distance across six attempts.
The Diplomats travel to Muhlenberg on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. CC tilt.
