LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 14 Lynchburg jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back defeating No. 12 Franklin & Marshall 19-10 Saturday afternoon in men's lacrosse action. The Hornets improved to 2-0, and F&M dropped to 0-1. Kevin Mollihan ended with three goals and an assist and reset the program goal record with 194 goals. Chris Mergardt '96 held the record since 1996 with 192 goals.
Five goals in the first seven minutes put Hornets up 5-0, before Kevin Mollihan found Will DeMuth for the Diplomats first goal. Lynchburg struck twice for a 7-1 edge and after a goal by Mollihan, the Hornets put one more on the board for an 8-2 lead at the end of the first. The Hornets outscored F&M 4-1 in the second quarter with the Diplomats getting their lone goal by A.J. Rigsby to make it 12-3 at the break.
The teams exchanged points throughout the third. Mollihan had two for the Diplomats in the quarter including one with just three ticks on the clock to make it 16-7 heading into the fourth. The Diplomats put two through in the early minutes of the final frame, followed by a three-goal spurt by Lynchburg before George LeBoeuf netted the last score of the game.
F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Susquehanna for a 4:00 p.m. game.
