NEWVILLE, Pa-- The Franklin & Marshall women's cross country team placed eighth overall out of 31 teams at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships Saturday morning. From the 2019 race, F&M improved their team position by ten after finishing 18th two years ago. The Diplomats scored 246 points overall as a team, marking their best finish since the 1999 season.
Alexis Salerno and Elizabeth O'Connell earned top 30 individual honors as Salerno placed 24th, covering the 6k course in 24:28.4 and O'Connell finished 27th, gutting out a 24:31.1 time. The pair of seniors increased their individual placement from the 2019 race immensely as Salerno was 97th and O'Connell was 103rd two years ago. Salerno and O'Connell both landed All-Region honors for their efforts.
The other three F&M runners who are all seniors as well who finishing top five individually on the team and additionally cracking the top 75 were June Sanchez (56th: 25:30.8), Laura Greene (73rd: 25:46.1), and Freya Lindvall (75th: 25:47.2)
F&M's other two finishers were Kate Henderson and Alysse Danyi who finished 97th and 103rd, respectively in times of 26:12.8 and 26:43.7. Danyi made her NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships debut Saturday afternoon.
