Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. -- Cold shooting from Franklin & Marshall set back women's basketball against Washington by a 50-42 margin on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action at Mayser Center. The Diplomats (2-2, 0-1 CC) shot just 24.5% from the floor against the Shorewomen (4-1, 1-0 CC), including just five first quarter points.
F&M got on the board first from a three-pointer by Kenzie Bradley - the lone bucket of the first quarter for the Diplomats, and the only lead of the game for the home side. A matching three from Washington at 6:41 started an 11-0 run that spanned nearly towards the end of the quarter. A pair of Kenna Williams free throws ended the drought, cutting the Shorewomen lead to 11-5 after the first quarter.
The Diplomats clawed back to within two with 3:33 left to play in the second quarter, as Maia Lockhart knocked one down from distance. A 5-2 run by Washington, punctuated by a buzzer beater before the half put the vistors on top 20-15 at the break.
A 9-4 run from Washington after halftime pushed its lead to ten with 6:32 remaining in the third. That lead grew to as many as 14 in the quarter, before a pair of D'Naisha Bellamy-Greene free throws narrowed the lead to 37-25 entering the fourth.
F&M cut the deficit to just two possessions with 1:22 remaining, using a 10-2 run to pull close. Natalie Kolb's silky triple closed the gap to 45-39, then Ally Trebelev's corner three did the same just 42 seconds later to nullify three free throws from the Shorewomen at 48-42. Washington made two of six free throws down the stretch to close out the 50-42 win.
The Diplomats only shot 24.5% (12-49) from the field, while also holding the Shorewomen to just 29.6% (16-54) shooting. F&M dominated again in rebounds 44-37, but coughed up 26 turnovers that led to 18 points for Washington.
Kenna Williams led the way with a double-double, punching in 10 points with 13 rebounds for the Diplomats. Maia Lockhart finished with nine points off the bench, while Ally Trebelev ended with seven, and D'Naisha Bellamy-Greene hitting a perfect six-of-six from the stripe for her six.
F&M has a short turnaround, facing Ursinus at home as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday evening, beginning at 6:00 pm at the Mayser Center.
