Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - No. 15 Franklin & Marshall used a four-goal spurt in the third quarter to snap a halftime stalemate and take down No. 13 Ursinus on Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference action. After a six-all tie following the opening thirty minutes, the Diplomats held the Bears to only two second half tallies while pouring in another six of their own. With the win, F&M improved to 5-0, 4-0 CC while Ursinus dropped to 2-2, 2-2 CC.
The teams were on a seesaw for the first part of the game, with F&M's Christian Sullivan netting one just 23 seconds into the game. Reigning Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week A.J. Rigsby struck gold nearly five minutes later. A quick 14-second spurt less than a minute later from Ursinus saw them pull level at 2-2. Blake Target scored with 6:57 remaining in the first quarter to push F&M up 3-2, but three straight Ursinus goals spanning quarters gave them a 5-3 advantage early in the second. The teams exchanged goals, which included Rigsby's second of the contest, as the Bears led 6-4 with 9:20 left in the half.
Then F&M went to work. A.J. Rigsby and Luke Keating goals with less than five minutes to spare, pulling the Diplomats level. Four straight F&M goals in the third from the trio of Keating, Will Mollihan, and Jack Beatty gave the Diplomats their largest lead of the match at 10-6.
Ursinus sliced the lead in half with two goals to start the fourth, but F&M quickly shut the door on the backs of Blake Target and Christian Sullivan for the 12-8 final.
Blake Target and Luke Keating each tallied hat tricks, with Keating also pouring in four assists. A.J. Rigsby and Christian Sullivan also had multi-goal games. Jack Beatty led the way with seven ground balls after going 10-for-19 from the X. Reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week Eric Mueller (5-0) picked up the victory, turning away 15 shots.
The Diplomats are back in action this Saturday afternoon, travelling to Dickinson for a noon showdown in CC action.
