Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (8-3, 4-0 CC), a team receiving votes in the national polls, defeated Centennial Conference foe Washington College (4-7, 1-3 CC) 2-0 Saturday evening.
Both teams went into the halftime break scoreless with F&M holding the advantage in shots, 6-2. Eight minutes into third quarter, the Diplomats drew a penalty corner. The ball found Amelia McCarthy's stick who fired a pass in front of the net for Jessica Miller to deflect the ball past the goal line for the opening score. The score is Miller's fourth goal of the season and McCarthy's first point of the year.
The Diplomats padded their lead three minutes into the fourth quarter. A crossing pass was kicked away from the net by the Washington goalkeeper. The loose ball found the stick of Kat Study who fired a shot that found the back of the net for her first career goal.
The Diplomats put seven shots on net compared to the Shorewomen's two shots on goal.
The victory was F&M's sixth shutout of the season, and the third consecutive game where the Diplomats kept their opponent off the scoreboard.
Franklin & Marshall returns to Tylus Field to host Dickinson Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
