Women's Swimming Dominates Susquehanna in Return to Competition

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team dominated visiting Susquehanna on Friday night inside the Kunkel Aquatic Center as the Diplomats won each of the 14 events that were contested. That strong showing propelled the team to a 194-53 victory, giving F&M its third straight victory dating back to the fall semester.

Sophie Bergstrom, Sarah Gartner, Georgia May, and Sophie Moyer each won two events for the Diplomats. May got the momentum rolling early as she became the seventh fastest individual in school history in the 1,000 Freestyle (10:42.22). She also won the 200 IM (2:17.71). Gartner was the champion Friday night in the 200 Freestyle (2:02.06) and 500 Freestyle (5:35.46)

Moyer won the 100 Butterfly (58.26) and 100 Breaststroke (1:06.05) as the school record holder in both events posted times that were only previously best by her own records in those events. Bergstrom won the 100 Backstroke (59.81) and 200 Backstroke (2:12.03) as she and Moyer made up half of the 200 Medley Relay that opened the night with a victory.

McFadden started the night with a relay win and later joined Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe, Olivia Lockey, and Rachel Baker in closing the evening with a victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Amelia Bothwell was additionally on the 200 Medley Relay that got Franklin & Marshall off to a quick start.

In addition to helping the relays win, Rachel Baker (50 Freestyle; 25.06), Amelia Bothwell (200 Butterfly (2:14.90), and Olivia Lockey (100 Freestyle; 53.79) were also individual event winners. Lockey's time in the 100 Free made her the eighth fastest individual in school history. Maya Blaisure also struck gold, winning the 200 Breaststroke (2:33.19).

Women's swimming will now face a quick turnaround as the Diplomats head to Bryn Mawr on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start against the Owls before wrapping up the Centennial Conference portion of their schedule next Saturday versus Washington College.
