Women's Swimming Heads to CC Championships This Weekend

Centennial Conference Championship Central

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team has finished third at the past two Centennial Conference Championships, matching its best finish since the 2016 season in the process. The Diplomats are also coming off a third place finish during the conference's regular season dual schedule and will be looking to build on that success at this weekend's 2023 Centennial Conference Championships.

Big points will be up for grabs in the relay events and the Diplomats are seeded third coming into the meet in the 200 Medley, 200 Freestyle, and 400 Freestyle relays. F&M is also fifth in the 800 Freestyle and 400 Medley championship events. The "B" relays, which will all swim in the consolation finals, are seeded no lower than third across any of those five consolation finals. That group is currently highlighted by the "B" relay in the 200 Freestyle which is ranked second among those entrants entering the weekend.

The top eight swimmers in the individual events will advance to the championship finals, while the ninth through 16th qualifiers in the morning heats advance to the consolation finals. Franklin & Marshall enters the weekend with 12 top eight seeds, and 32 swimmers ranked among the top 16 in their events following the regular season. Just behind that group are even more Diplomats hungry to improve on their personal bests and swim during the evening sessions.

Catherine Crampton is a top nine seed in three different events, ranking fourth in the 400 Individual Medley, seventh in the 200 Breaststroke, and ninth in the 200 Individual Medley. Sophie Moyer will also be in the hunt for medals as she enters the weekend seeded second in the 200 Breaststroke and fourth in the 100 Breaststroke. Senior Julie McFadden is another Diplomat who will be looking to place high on the podium. She sits third in the 50 Freestyle and fourth in the 100 Freestyle after the regular season, while she is additionally seeded 11th in the 100 Backstroke.

Swimmers are limited to three individual races and Sophie Bergstrom, Jenna Lu, and Georgia May will look to maximize that as they are projected scorers in three different events. May is the third seed in the 1650 Freestyle, also ranking sixth in the 500 Freestyle and 13th in the 400 IM. Bergstrom's best event was the 100 Backstroke during the regular season where she is currently seeded eighth. She also holds the 10th and 12th seeds in the 200 Backstroke and 500 Freestyle, respectively. Jenna Lu is currently ranked 10th in the 400 IM, holding more top 16 regular season times in the 200 Breaststroke and 200 IM.

Emma Devine is a top eight seed in the 500 Freestyle, while Olivia Lockey will be the in hunt for championship final during the 100 Freestyle. Franklin & Marshall swimmers looking to make in impact in multiple events and enter the weekend with top 16 times in two of those races include Rachel Baker (100 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle), Maya Blaisure (100 & 200 Breaststroke), Amelia Bothwell (100 & 200 Butterfly), Sarah Gartner (200 & 1650 Frestyle), Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe (100 Freestyle & Breaststroke), and Kathy Peitz-Diaz (200 Backstroke & 500 Freestyle).

The 2023 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships will be hosted by Gettysburg from Thursday, February 16 through Sunday, February 19. Live video and live results will be available throughout the weekend through the links at the top of the article. In addition to the team championship, individual accolades will be on the line as first and second-team All-Centennial Conference honors will be presented to the top two relays from the championship finals, while first, second, and honorable mention All-CC accolades will be awarded to the top three finishers following each individual event.

A full schedule, including Psych Sheets, for the weekend is available through the Centennial Conference Championship page. Teams are limited to 18 swimmers who compete in the championship meet.
