GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team added 12 scoring performances to its team total on Friday during day two of the Centennial Conference Championships. Heading into day three of the four-day event, the Diplomats are currently in fourth place with 170 team points.
The Diplomats had five scoring individuals in the 50 freestyle, led by school record holder Julie McFadden taking fourth in the championship final with a time of 24.24 seconds. Sophie Moyer won the consolation final in a time of 24.36 seconds, recording the fourth-fastest time in F&M history during that race. Rachel Baker (24.64), Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe (24.73), and Olivia Lockey (24.78) claimed the 13th through 15th positions after joining Moyer in the consolation final.
Catherine Crampton advanced to the championship final of the 200 individual medley where her time of 2:09.72 during the finals placed her eighth and moved her up to fifth in the school record book. Amelia Bothwell (2:15.68) and Jenna Lu (2:16.20) also advanced to the consolation finals of that event, as did Georgia May (5:16.92) and Sophie Bergstrom (5:20.94) during the 500 freestyle to start the session.
Closing the night with the 400 medley relay, Sophie Bergstrom, Sophie Moyer, Amelia Bothwell, and Julie McFadden combined to take fourth with a time of 3:57.80. The "B" relay of Rachel Baker, Catherine Crampton, Olivia Lockey, and Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe were third during its consolation final (11th overall), finishing in 4:04.15.
Saturday will be day three of four at the Centennial Conference Championships with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and the event finals at 6 p.m. Events to be contested tomorrow are the 200 freestyle relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke.
