GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team wrapped up the 2023 Centennial Conference Championships with a pair of bronze medal finishes from Julie McFadden (100 freestyle) and Sophie Moyer (200 breaststroke). Those two swimmers both set personal bests in their respective events and will earn honorable mention All-Centennial Conference recognition for those performances.
Moyer's time broke her previous school record in the event, while McFadden strengthened her position as the second-best swimmer in school history. As a team, the Diplomats completed the four-day meet with 423 teams points, placing them fourth in the final standings.
Moyer's third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke highlighted six finalists in that event for the Diplomats. Catherine Crampton won the consolation final (2:26.58) which was dominated by the Diplomats and additionally featured Emma Devine (2:30.83), Jenna Lu (2:32.06), Maya Blaisure (2:32.28), and Riley Reader (2:35.20). McFadden's 100 freestyle final also featured Olivia Lockey taking 15th place overall in the consolation race.
McFadden and Moyer capped their championship by swimming the opening two legs of the 400 freestyle relay, joining teammates Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe and Olivia Lockey in placing fourth with a time of 3:34.08. The "B" relay was second in the consolation final as Rachel Baker, Catherine Crampton, Ruhbani Sidhu, and Emma Devine posted a time of 3:40.41.
Georgia May was one of two scoring Diplomats in the 1650 freestyle race which opened the final session. May finished in 18:00.26, with fellow Diplomat Sarah Gartner placing 15th (18:50.01). The Diplomats also had two swimmers make the consolation final of the 200 backstroke with Kathy Peitz-Diaz (2:12.62) and Sophie Bergstrom (2:17.02), while Amelia Bothwell was 11th in the 200 butterfly (2:14.19) throughout Sunday's seventh and final session.
