Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Behind career nights from Ally Trebelev and Quinn Galligan, the Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team came away with a thrilling 52-50 comeback victory against visiting Washington College on Thursday night. The Diplomats trailed by as many as 11 points during the opening half, but outscored the Shorewomen 21-14 in the fourth quarter to come away with the Centennial Conference victory.
Trebelev shot 4-of-7 from the field and added another five points at the free throw line for a career-high 13 points. Galligan scored all of her career-high 11 points during the fourth quarter as she did not miss over the final 10 minutes. During that final period she went 4-for-4 from the field, including a trio of three-pointers. Behind the two leading scorers, all nine Diplomats who entered the game finished with multiple points on the evening.
As hot as the Diplomats were in the fourth quarter, shooting 58 percent from the field and 66 percent from beyond the arc during the final 10 minutes, the offense took some time to find its grove during the first half. A layup from Trebelev and three-pointer from Hailey Cabanas closed the opening period with the Shorewomen leading 13-7. Washington College's defense continued to hold the upper hand in the second quarter, with WAC holding a double-digit lead on three occasions before taking a 26-20 lead into the half.
The Diplomats were a point better in the third quarter, but still faced a 36-31 deficit heading into the final 10 minutes. It was Trebelev and Galligan who were able to turn the momentum during the fourth quarter as they combined for the first five points to knot the score at 36-all. The Shorewomen bounced back, but Franklin & Marshall took the lead for good on Natalie Kolb's three-pointer with 4:48 remaining in regulation which set the score at 44-41.
That triple capped an 8-0 run from the hosts who held the lead for the rest of the evening. The lead grew to multiple possessions when Jaclyn Feit converted an old-fashioned three-point play in the paint with just over two minutes to play. One final dagger from Galligan beyond the arc put the Diplomats up 51-46 with 23 seconds to play. From that point, the Shorewomen never had a chance at the game-tying or winning basket during those final seconds.
Lizzie Neville dished out the assist on Galligan's final basket to finish with a game-high six helpers. In addition to her crucial late basket, Feit came away with six more blocked shots and added a team-best seven turnovers.
Women's basketball will play its final home game of the regular season this Saturday as the Diplomats welcome Muhlenberg to the Mayser Center. That Centennial Conference game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip and will also be Senior Day where the team will honor Natalie Kolb prior to the opening tip.
