Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse team was locked in another battle with rival Dickinson under the Wednesday lights of Centennial Conference action. The Diplomats used a dominant defense early to jump out to a 3-1 lead, but the No. 14 Red Devils went on a 10-1 run that spanned the second and third quarters during an eventual 14-8 final in favor of the hosts.
Tommy Garofalo (four goals) and Christian Sullivan (three goals) each registered hat tricks during the rivalry game, with Liam Timmins also finding the back of the cage during the conference matchup. Dickinson countered that with a pair of four-goal scorers of their own in Will Farrell and Sam Campbell.
Sage Garito stopped three of the four shots he faced during the first quarter and made eight saves in total during the opening half to help his side get out to the early lead. Following the Red Devils tallying the opening goal at the 8:42 mark of the first, Dickinson would not score again for nearly 17 minutes. That period of Diplomat defensive lockdown allowed F&M to go on its own 3-0 run which featured two goals from Garofalo while he additionally assisted on Timmins' tally.
When Dickinson did regain its offensive traction, the Red Devils closed the first half on a 4-0 run and took a 5-3 lead into the half. Garofalo's third goal of the game started the second half scoring, but Dickinson closed the third quarter on a 7-0 run and led 11-4 heading into the final 15 minutes.
Franklin & Marshall scored four of the first five goals to start the fourth quarter, three of which came off the stick of Sullivan. That trimmed the host's lead down to 12-8, but was all the closer F&M could get in the 14-8 final. Garito finished the game with 10 saves before Eric Mueller came in during the final 15 minutes and made six more stops.
Now sitting at 1-1 in the conference, Franklin & Marshall will be back on the road this Saturday at Swarthmore. The opening face-off of that conference clash is set for 12 p.m.
