InterMat Rankings
LANCASTER, Pa. – John Crawford will start the 2023-24 season as the No. 30-ranked wrestler at 197 lbs. in the preseason rankings that were released by InterMat this week. Crawford found himself in the NCAA Coaches Rankings multiple times a season ago and is once again on the national radar heading into his senior campaign.
Crawford finished last season with a 24-13 record at 197 lbs. That included an 11-2 record in dual meets and a 10-5 record against EIWA opponents. Over half of his victories a season ago came via bonus points as Crawford secured two falls, four tech falls, and four major decisions to go along with two forfeits and an injury default victory.
The Diplomats' co-captain jumped on the national scene early with a 3-2 victory over returning national qualifier Michael Battista of Virginia who ended up at No. 24 in the national rankings. Crawford also defeated opponents from Indiana and North Carolina who finished the season in the top 33 of the RPI while finishing second at the Lehman Open and placing fifth at the Keystone Classic.
With a career record of 46-34 heading into his senior season, Crawford is one of six EIWA wrestlers ranked in the top 33 of the preseason release. Crawford is one of six Diplomats who won at least 20 matches a season ago and each of those will return to the team during the upcoming year. The upcoming season will get underway on Saturday, November 4 when the team takes part in the Southeast Open.
