Men's Swimming Break Two Pool Records in Victory at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The Franklin & Marshall men's swimming team (4-2, 2-2 CC) earned a 164-73 win over non-conference opponent Kutztown on Saturday afternoon, breaking the Keystone Natatorium pool record in both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay in the process. Across the meet, F&M earned nine event wins and 28 top-three finishes.

The team of Nick Lowell, Patrick Rooney, Evan Willertz, and Thomas Smolinski started the day by shattering the 200 medley relay pool record with a time of 1:37.65. Jarrett Driever, Luke Circus, Tim Turnbull, and John Devaney finished in second place.

Devaney, Smolinski, Ben Lockey, and Henry Tavens the 200 freestyle relay record at Kutztown with a time of 1:26.98. Joe Clarkson, Brady Saunders, Noah Drexler, and Lowell followed in second.

Ryan Kornacki earned the victory in both distance freestyle events, winning the 500 freestyle and 1000 freestyle. 

Lowell swept both of his individual events, winning the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. 

Smolinski led a sweep of the top-three spots in the 100 freestyle, with Joe Clarkson and Lockey sharing second-place honors. 

Devaney earned the win in the 50 freestyle, and he was in second spot in the 100 breaststroke. 

Rooney won the 200 breaststroke and was third in the 1000 freestyle. 

Clarkson also was second in the 1000 freestyle in addition to tying for second in the 100 freestyle. 

Driever was third in both the 100 breaststroke and 400 IM.

The Diplomats compete in two weeks' time as they host the Franklin & Marshall Invitational from Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24.
