EWING, N.J.- The Franklin & Marshall men's swimming team (5-3, 3-2 CC) returned from the winter break against The College of New Jersey, falling 202-56 in dual meet action on Friday afternoon. The team totaled one event win via Sam Kamdin and eight top-three finishes.
The team of John Devaney, Brady Saunders, Ben Lockey, Henry Tavens earned second in the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:00.20. It's the team's best time in the event this season following a 3:04.04 at November's Franklin & Marshall Invitational, and the time is within a second of the program record of 2:59.36 set by Devaney, Brendan Cline, Chris Schivone, and Tom Graminski in 2022.
50-meter races at the meet utilized the skins race format. Starting with an eight person, the top four times were taken for a semifinal before holding a final race featuring the two best finishers of the semifinal.
Sam Kamdin had the best day individually for F&M, winning the 100 backstroke with a of time 53.61, earning silver in the 100 butterfly, and claiming third in the 50 backstroke after posting the second best time in the heat.
After sharing the best time in the heat of the 50 freestyle, Lockey went on to finish third in the semifinal, missing the final by 0.26 seconds with a time of 22.63. He also finished third in the 100 breaststroke.
Patrick Rooney finished second in every round of the 50 breaststroke, including silver in the final with a time of 27.99. He also claimed third in the
Devaney claimed silver in the 100 freestyle.
The Diplomats compete again in two weeks as they travel to Johns Hopkins on Saturday, January 25, at 12:00 p.m.
