LANCASTER, Pa. – Lauren Pittman has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Diplomats to a 2-0 week that has officially locked up a spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament. Pittman's honor marks the third time she has been named conference defensive player of the week – in addition to three times receiving that recognition for her offensive exploits.
Normally making her impact felt on the attack, Pittman played a huge part in a defensive effort that held Washington College to just 13-for-23 on its clearing attempts. Pittman caused four turnovers and secured four ground balls in the transition game in addition to tying for the team lead with five goals. During the midweek game versus McDaniel, Pittman snatched four draw controls while adding three points on the offensive end of the field. The Diplomats' defense held its two opponents to an average of just 6.0 goals per game in the 2-0 week with a 17-8 win over the Shorewomen and 22-4 triumph versus the Green Terror.
Pittman has certainly left her mark in the F&M record books during the last four seasons as she ranks second in school history in draw controls (274), second in game-winning goals (19), third in player advantage goals (20), fifth in goals (216), sixth in points (288), and 18th in assists (72). She is also approaching top 30 marks in school history for both ground balls and caused turnovers.
Women's lacrosse wraps up the regular season this week with a pair of road games against Ursinus and Muhlenberg. The Diplomats can officially secure a first round bye into the conference semifinals with a win versus the Bears on Wednesday as that contest is set for a 7 p.m. opening draw in Collegeville.
