Baseball Holds Off Lancaster Bible, 10-9

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (19-15-1, 5-9-1 CC) denied Lancaster Bible (15-15), 10-9, Wednesday evening in the Diplomats' final non-conference game of the 2026 regular season. F&M put up five runs in the second inning to take an early lead. LBC fought its way back into the game, but the Diplomats held off the Chargers in the ninth to bring its non-conference record to 14-6.

Lancaster Bible took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after scoring on a sacrifice fly. F&M went to work in the bottom of the second as Ben Rothenberg singled to lead off the frame. Noah Ford was hit by a pitch and Enrico Tufano singled to load the bases with no outs in the inning. A sacrifice fly from Tommy Truzzolino scored Rothenberg to tie the game at 1-1. Vincent Mariniello slashed a single through the middle of the infield to plate Ford, giving F&M its first lead of the game. Two batters later, Matt Hollender ripped a double into left center to bring in the third run of the inning. A throwing error on the LBC infield allowed two runs to come home, extending the Diplomats' lead to 5-1.

The Chargers pushed across two runs in the top of the third to trim the F&M lead to 5-3. The Diplomats answered in the bottom of the fourth, starting with Ethan Conklin and Hollender both earning walks to start the frame. A throwing error on a sacrifice bunt from Zac Fuscaldo allowed two runs to score, giving F&M a 7-3 advantage. The Diplomats got runners at the corners with no outs as a double play allowed Fuscaldo to score, bringing the Diplomats' lead to 8-3.

LBC fought its way back in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits to get within a run of tying the contest. In the bottom of the fifth, F&M loaded the bases for Fuscaldo to rip a two-out two-RBI single through the middle of the infield to extend the hosts' lead to 10-7.

Lancaster Bible made it a one-run game with two runs in the top of the seventh. The Chargers threatened in the top of the ninth, getting the tying run to third with no outs in the frame. However, Colin Mackenzie forced a groundout and two strikeouts to deny LBC's scoring chance.

Six different Diplomats tallied hits with Fuscaldo driving in a team-high two RBI. Conklin scored a team-high three times, while Hollender notched two runs scored in the victory.

Jack Boesen (1-0) earned his first-career win on the mound, limiting LBC to one hit and two earned runs in 1.2 innings of relief. Mackenzie tallied his first save of the year, striking out three and allowing just one hit in 2.0 innings of work. Garrett Stowe made his first-career start, tossing one strikeout and allowing three earned runs in 3.0 innings pitched.
