Box Score 2 ANNVILLE, PA -- Alison Barrett (Sr., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) went nine innings allowing seven hits, three earned runs and two walks with eight strikeouts to earn a complete game win and a victory in relief as the Franklin & Marshall College softball team knocked off Lebanon Valley 5-2 and 5-4 in non-conference action.
Barrett, who improves to 3-1 on the year, went the distance in game one allowing six hits, two walks and two runs while striking out six batters as the Diplomats rolled 5-2.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fifth, F&M used four Flying Dutchwomen errors to tie the score. Morgan Marks (Fr., Furlong, PA/Central Bucks East) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second base on a sacrifice by Kristyn Miller (So., Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson). Amy Miller (So., Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) lined a shot which LVC second baseman Kristin Crouse couldn't handle putting runners on the corners with one out. Leah Shams-Molkara (Sr., Eastchester, NY/Tuckahoe) grounded to shortstop Casey McCool who couldn't field the ball allowing Marks to score and Miller to advance to second base. Following a pop-up by Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) to second base, Laura DePalma (Jr., Toms River, NJ/Toms River) reached on an error by pitcher Jenn Roberts as Miller scored, Shams-Molkara advanced to third and Fried moved to second to knot the game at 2-2.
Barrett mowed the Dutchwomen down 1-2-3 in the fifth to bring up the F&M lineup in the sixth as F&M banged out four hits and three runs to take the 5-2 victory.
Barrett led off the inning with a single to right centerfield and moved to second on a sacrifice by Marks. Kristyn Miller singled to left field to move Barrett to third and Amy Miller singled to right field to plate the winning run and move Kristyn Miller to second base. Shams-Molkara was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Johns singled to plate Shams-Molkara and Amy Miller to pad the lead in the 5-2 victory.
Barrett finished off the game allowing four hits in the final two innings as she improved to 2-1 on the year and record her 100th career strikeout with a K of LVC catcher Mandi Nace in the fourth inning.
In game two, DePalma went three-for-four with one run scored and an RBI, while Fried was two-for-four with a run and an RBI as the Diplomats rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the fifth to take a 5-4 win behind Barrett in relief.
F&M jumped on the board in the third inning as Shams-Molkara reached on an error by pitcher Kelly O'Toole and advanced to second base before Johns singled to plate the run. The Diplomats tacked on another run in the fifth as Fried singled through the right side of the infield, Johns singled back to the pitcher and DePalma drove an RBI single to left-centerfield for a 2-0 lead.
However, the Dutchwomen responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth off F&M starter Jonelle Coletta (So., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) courtesy four hits.
F&M retook the lead in the top of the sixth with two runs as F&M used three hits and one LVC error as Shams-Molkara drove in Kristyn Miller with a single and Fried doubled to plate Shams-Molkara.
Lebanon Valley tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Barrett entered the game in relief of Coletta and allowed one run on one hit, two wild pitches and an error to enter the seventh inning tied at 4-4.
In the seventh, De Palma led off with a single and Allison Pavero (So., Malvern, PA/Notre Dame Academy) singled to right field to put runners on first and second with no outs. Barrett sacrificed to move the runners over before Coletta, now playing third base, singled through the right side of the infield to plate De Palma with the game winning run.
Barrett closed out the game with a lineout, a strikeout and a groundout to improve F&M's record to 3-3 on the year while LVC falls to 2-6.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on March 27 at home versus Washington College in the Diplomats' Centennial Conference season opener. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
