Box Score 2 LANCASTER, PA - Kathleen Clinchy (Fr., Katonah, NY/Somers) went two-for-three with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Franklin & Marshall College softball team to a 5-3 win in game two of a Centennial Conference doubleheader versus Dickinson College at Baker Campus.
Following an 8-2 win in game one, Dickinson (10-20, 6-8 Centennial Conference) jumped on the board in the first inning of game two as Rachel Fleming singled and moved to second base on an error before scoring on an RBI double by Alex Speace for a 1-0 lead.
The Diplomats took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as Laura DePalma (Sr., Toms River, NJ/Toms River) tripled and stole home before Clinchy doubled and scored on interference for a 2-1 lead.
Franklin & Marshall added to the lead in the third inning as Bonnie Crouthamel (Fr., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) walked and DePalma doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs. Clinchy plated Crouthamel with a ground out and Meghan Baker (Fr., Glenville, PA/South Western) singled to drive in DePalma to push the lead to 4-1.
In the fifth inning, Clinchy singled to drive Crouthamel across the plate with the Diplomats fifth and final run of the season to go ahead 5-1.
Dickinson attempted to rally scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh, but Crouthamel got Jess Burger to fly-out to centerfield with the bases loaded in the seventh to hang on for the 5-3 win.
In the circle, Crouthamel went seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts to earn the win, while Dickinson's Sarah McGowen allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks with no strikeouts to take the loss.
In game one, the Red Devils rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the fourth inning to score three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh to notch an 8-2 win.
For Dickinson, Eve Massa was three-for-three with a run scored and Speace was three-for-four with an RBI and run scored to lead the way to the win.
The key to the game was the pitching of Red Devils' hurler Lauren Porter who scattered four hits over seven innings while allowing two runs and walks with one strikeout.
Ali Tyler (Fr., Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) took the loss for Franklin & Marshall going 4.2 innings with three runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Laura Kaesshaefer (Fr., Philadelphia, PA/Penn Charter) finished the game going 2.1 innings with five runs allowed on six hits with one strikeout.
Franklin & Marshall concludes the season with a 6-28 record, 4-12 in Centennial Conference play.
