Ali Tyler (So., Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) went seven innings allowing one run on four hits and a walk with a strikeout to pick up a 10-1 win as the Franklin & Marshall College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Albright College.
Following a 6-0 loss in game one, the Diplomats rallied from a 1-0 first inning deficit to score five runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the seventh to pick up their fifth win of the season.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the game as Meridith Hippert tripled to drive in Ashley Young in the first inning.
Franklin & Marshall plated the winning runs in the fourth as Jessika Mancino (Fr., Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) walked and stole second before Bonnie Crouthamel (So., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) singled to center field to drive her in to tie the score. Lauren Incorvaia (Fr., Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianney) doubled to drive in Crouthamel for the winning run and Robyn Jones (Jr., Titusville, PA/The Pennington School) reached on a fielding error at shortstop to put runners on the corners with no outs. Krystin Alex (Fr., Melville, NY/St. Anthony's) followed with a double to drive in Incorvaia and move Jones to third base before Sam Basuk (Fr., New York, NY/Indian Hills) singled to drive in Jones for a 4-1 lead. Liz Iannaconi (So., Palisades Park, NJ/Dwight Englewood) closed out the scoring in the inning as she singled to drive in Basuk for a 5-1 lead.
The lead expanded to 6-1 in the fifth as Incorvaia singled to centerfield, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a fielding error at second base.
F&M closed out the scoring in the seventh by stringing together five hits and a fielding error for four runs.
Tyler led off the inning with a double and Mancino reached on a fielder's choice before Crouthamel singled to the outfield grass to drive in both runners. Meredith Morgan (Fr., Phoenixville, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Basuk tacked on RBI singles later in the inning for the 10-1 final.
Overall, Crouthamel led the Diplomats at the plate going two-for-three with three RBI and a run scored, while Incorvaia was two-for-four with an RBI and three runs scored and
Basuk finished two-for-four with two RBI and a run scored.
Lauren Every took the loss for Albright allowing five runs on six hits and a walk in four innings. Meredith Mayes finished the game for the Lions allowing five runs on six hits with a strikeout.
The Lions picked up the win in game one as Ashley Young went the distance allowing two hits with a walk and five strikeouts in seven innings to record a 6-0 win.
Albright jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as the Lions plated two runs on a walk, two errors and a passed ball. The margin expanded to 3-0 in the second as the Lions used two hits and an error for another run before tacking on a pair of runs in the third for a 5-0 lead. The Lions closed out the scoring in the fifth as Erica Romond led off the inning with a solo home run.
Crouthamel took the loss for F&M allowing six runs on six hits, five errors and three walks with three strikeouts. Laura Kaesshaefer (So., Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) closed out the game going one inning with no hits, walks or runs allowed.
For Albright, Romond led the way going two-for-three with two runs scored and the Lions' only RBI.
Franklin & Marshall (5-28, 1-11 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 22 at Swarthmore College in a Centennial Conference doubleheader. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m.
