LANCASTER, Pa. - On the day that her and her classmates were honored, Franklin & Marshall senior Bonnie Crouthamel picked up wins on both ends of the Diplomats (7-15, 4-6 CC) sweep of Washington College in Centennial Conference (CC) softball. F&M won the first game 3-1, and took their streak to four-straight wins with a 7-6 win in the closer.

Crouthamel limited the Shorewomen (8-14, 3-5 CC) to a single run on eight hits in the first game. She struck out a pair of batters and issued three walks. Washington stranded ten base runners as Crouthamel worked out of several jams, mostly in the early going.

She improved to 4-11 on the season working in a relief role in a wild nightcap. She gave up two runs on four hits over the final three innings, and allowed Washington to put the game-tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with one out. She once again worked out of the jam with a ground out and pop up to short.

F&M broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth in the first game with a pair of unearned runs. Senior, Kathleen Clinchy, led off the frame with a shot back up the middle. Clinchy's classmate, Robyn Jones, followed with a single off of the leg of the Shorewomen pitcher, Emily Adams. Lauren Incorvaia, another senior, laid down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position.

Both runners scored on the next play.

Meredith Morgan laid down a bunt that dribbled to the circle. Adams opted for the play at home, but her throw was errant, skipping off of the backstop and rolling long enough to let Clinchy and Jones come across to make it 3-1. Adams (4-5) limited F&M to four hits and three unearned runs in taking the loss.

The Diplomats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second game. Jones reached on an error in the first inning, which was followed by an Incorvaia double up through the middle. Jones came home on the play as the ball was mishandled by the centerfielder to allow the 1-0 start.

The second run came as unearned as the first with Kristina Fietkiewicz reaching on an error. Liz Iannaocni brought her home with a line drive single to start F&M's three-run second. A Clinchy single through the right side of the infield plated Jessika Mancino and Ianaconni's courtesy runner, Karalynne Clark.

Iannaocni and Clinchy each picked up a pair of hits in the second game, as did Incorvaia.

Washington began to chip away the next inning as Becca Nicely led off the inning with a double to the fence in right-center. She scored when Meg Travers found a hole on the right side to make it 4-1.

Washington tied it up in the fifth inning, which was again sparked by Nicely in the leadoff spot. Her single, followed by an Irene Pastorino double allowed Travers the opportunity to plate Nicely once more. A single down the leftfield line did just that, before Meg Russel beat out an infield single to load the bases without an out on the board.

That prompted the Diplomats' skipper to call on Crouthamel, who got the inning's first out at the plate on a fielder's choice. An Amanda Campbell single and an Adams walk plated a pair of runs to make it 4-4 before Tricia Carroll ended the inning on a 1-2-3- double play.

F&M responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning. Fietkiewicz did the bulk of the work with a two-out triple that scored Samantha Basuk and Incorvaia. Caitlin Elfring picked up what turned out to be the game-winning RBI scoring Fietkiewicz on a double.

Pastorino, Travers, Nicely and Meg Travers each picked up a pair of hits in the second game. Travers, Russell and Nicely each scored a pair of runs as well.

The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday at home against Gettysburg.
