FT. MYERS, Fla. -- Franklin & Marshall's softball team split
the opening day of their Florida swing, posting a 4-3 win over
Lasell, while suffering a 3-1 setback to Brockport State.
The Diplomats (6-2) scored four runs in the fifth to overcome a
2-0 deficit and held on for the win in the first game of the day.
Nicole Morano remains unbeaten in her first season of collegiate
softball with her fourth win. First-year Sarah Damato earned her
first save by pitching out of jam in the seventh. The Lasers (0-1)
had two runners on board without an out, but Damato worked F&M
out of the pinch. Alyssa Yackle and Morano each had an RBI in the
game. Jessika Mancino recorded a pair of hits in the win.
Brockport scored two unearned runs negating solid work in the
circle. Damato (1-2) started the game and was saddled with the
loss, while Morgan finished out. The pair held Brockport to five
hits, but the Golden Eagles (3-1) limited F&M to just one.
Yackle picked up the lone hit and an RBI, scoring Gina Camuso from
second base.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow against St. Lawrence and
Albright.
