Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. – Lynchburg used a five-run eighth inning rally to defeat Franklin & Marshall 10-9 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon. The Diplomats countered in the ninth, scoring four runs, but the Hornets (10-3) held on dropping F&M to 4-3 this season.

Down 5-4, F&M tied the game on a Matt Will single in the top of the eighth inning. The Hornets responded with their five-run inning, taking a 10-5 edge into the ninth. Nick Rolnick reached first on a walk and Bill Murray's bomb to left field gave the Diplomats two runs to start the ninth frame. Eric Bornstein singled to left and a balk and two walks in the next at-bats, loaded the bases for F&M with two outs on the board.

Will walked in the next at-bat, scoring Bornstein, putting the Diplomats within two runs. J.T. Triantos took first on a walk and Brendan DeMond crossed home plate, making it a one-run ball game. With the bases still juiced, Jay Anderson grounded out to third to end the game.

The Diplomats started off the game strong, scoring four runs in the first frame. Will reached on a fielding error and advanced to third on a Triantos double. Anderson was hit by a pitch in the next plate appearance, loading the bases for Rolnick. With one swing of the bat, Rolnick emptied the bases with a grand slam to left center. The Hornets retired the next three-out-four batters to end the inning.

Lynchburg added a run in the second and scored two each in the fourth and fifth, setting up its game-winning eighth inning rally.

Rolnick finished with four RBIs, going one-for-two from the plate and scoring two runs. Bill Murray and Will picked up two RBIs apiece and Triantos added one.
