Hornets Rally to Sweep Diplomats

Box Score

WINCHESTER, Va. – Franklin & Marshall held a 6-2 advantage over No.8/23 Shenandoah at the top of the fourth with eyes set to win its first of the three-game baseball series. The Hornets rallied for eight more runs, however, and handed the Diplomats a 10-6 defeat Sunday, sweeping the series. F&M fell to 5-6-1 on the year and Shenandoah, nabbing its 14th straight win, improved to 15-4.

The Hornets got on the board early in the first but the Diplomats quickly answered. J.T. Triantos stood on first in the third frame when Jason Anderson homered to right field and collected an RBI. Nick Rolnick followed, smashing a homerun of his own for a three-run third.

F&M added two more runs in the fourth inning. Aaron Gillette walked and advanced to second off of a Matt Will sacrifice bunt. Triantos singled and sent Gillette to third, and Anderson singled to right field to send Gillette home. The bases were loaded when Bill Murray stepped up and singled to left field to plate Triantos, and Shenandoah found itself in a 6-2 hole heading into the bottom of the fourth.

The Hornets tallied four runs in the fourth inning, starting with a Jesse Henry single to right center, collecting two RBIs. Greg Van Sickler then singled to center and nabbed two RBIs of his own.

Holding the Diplomats scoreless for the remainder of action, Shenandoah recorded another run in the seventh and went 2-for-3 in the eighth to strip the win from F&M.

Bryce Sears improved to 1-1 with the victory, allowing eight hits and striking out four.

Justin Thacker was stuck with the loss, falling to 0-1 on the year. Thacker did not allow any hits and fanned two batters.

Triantos went 2-for-3 at the plate and Nick Rolnick added two runs.

The Diplomats travel to Washington (Md.) on March 23 for its final of a 14-game road stretch. The Centennial Conference opener is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
