DANIELSVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men won
the Moravian Spring Invitational at Woodstone Golf Club on Thursday
afternoon. The victory was the Diplomats second invitational
championship won in the 2009-2010 season. F&M captured
Moravian's Fall Invitational back in September.
Cameron Warner continued his solid start to the spring with a
second place finish. Warner matched the medalist, Messiah's Matt
Burkhart, with a 74. The Falcon earned the individual medal on the
match of cards. The pair was two shots over par and held two shots
on the field.
While Warner watched Burkhart walk off with the medal, he helped
his team walk away with the team trophy by a single stroke on the
strength of a team total of 310. Messiah's M'Cheyne Farling and
F&M's Andrew Woods were tied for third having shot 76, while
F&M's Danny Liebowitz and Messiah's Dan Wort were locked up in
the nine-way tie for fifth place. The difference came with the
team's four-men. The Diplomats' got an 82 from Rob Moriarty, who
wrapped his day in a nine-way tie for 24th place in the field of
96. Messiah's No. 4, Ben Horst, finished a stroke behind in a
nine-way tie for 33rd.
Warner's 74 on Thursday was his second 74 in his last three
rounds. It is a single stroke off of the best round shot by a
F&M golfer this season. Woods shot a 73 at the Moravian Fall
Invitational, leading F&M to its lowest team round of the
season at 307. The Diplomats' 310 this afternoon is the
third best team round of the season.
The Diplomats return to action on Sunday for the first of two
rounds at the Mid-Atlantic Invitational. The Easter Sunday and
Monday tournament is hosted by the University of Rochester at the
Hershey Country Club.
