LITITZ, Pa. – Andrew Woods shot 70 to pace Franklin &
Marshall to a season-low round of 296 and the team championship at
the Bent Creek Invitational, hosted by the Diplomats on Monday.
Woods tied Messiah's Corey Wenger, for the low-round, but Wenger
took home the hardware on the strength of four birdies on the back
nine.
Woods' 70 represents his career best round by a single stroke.
He shot 71 in both 2007-08 and 2008-09. It is his 13th top-five
finish in his last 27 events. The team win was the fourth in the
last six invites at Bent Creek, which was last taken by Messiah in
the fall.
The Diplomats edged Messiah by six strokes on Monday. That cause
was aided by Danny Liebowitz, who shot an even par 71 for a third
place finish in the 83 golfer field. That was Liebowitz's best 18
holes of his 19-event old collegiate career. Liebowitz now has
eight top-five finishes approaching the stretch of his sophomore
campaign.
Brendan Mohler finished in s six-way tie for 10th place at 76
(+5). Harry Russell and Cameron Warner shot 79 (+8) and 81 (+10),
respectively. Russell finished in a tie for 26th while Warner
finished tied for 35th.
Paced by Kevin Goserud's season-low 74 (+3), the Diplomats'
"White" team finished in fourth place in the 17-team field. Goserud
landed in a three-way tie for sixth. Joshua Padwa also finished in
the top 25, tying three golfers for 22nd place at 78 strokes (+7).
Just behind was Jeremy Rubin, who was tied with Russell amongst
others at 79 (+8) for 26th. Mike Cascio rounded out the Diplomats'
foursome with an 81, leaving him tied for 35th.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow afternoon at the Ursinus
