WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Franklin & Marshall fell to Brockport St. 8-4 in non-conference spring break baseball action on Tuesday. The Diplomats drop to 5-5 with the loss, while the Golden Eagles improve to 7-4.

Trailing 3-0 after three innings of play, the Diplomats captured the lead with a wild four-run fourth to go up by one. Will Benenson opened with a leadoff walk, Kevin Shields lined a single to left field, and Alex Vescera put down a perfectly placed bunt down the third base line to fill the basepaths with nobody out. Avery Attinson followed with an RBI single to put F&M on the board and bring the score to 3-1.

With Josh Mendelson at the plate, Brockport St. catcher Nick Bunce attempted to throw out Attinson, who had a large lead off of first, after a pitch early in the count. Bunce's toss to first was deflected and rolled to the fence, allowing Shields to score from third and Vescera and Attinson to advance one base. Mendelson then chopped a grounder down the first base line that plated Vescera from third, before Brian Erb notched an RBI groundout to the right side to give F&M a 4-3 edge.

The Golden Eagles re-took the lead with a three-run sixth, and added on a score in both the seventh and eighth innings to notch the 8-4 victory.

Matt Valente took the loss on the mound for F&M, falling to 1-1 on the year. Valente struck out three in six innings of work. Chris Mathewson pitched the final two innings for the Diplomats, surrendering one earned run on three hits.

Shields led the way at the plate for F&M with a 3-for-4 line and crossed home once, while Attinson, Mendelson and Erb tallied RBIs in the loss.

Stephen Boronczyk went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Brockport St., while Mike Weakley posted a game-high three RBIs with two hits on the day.

The Diplomats rreturn to the diamond on Thursday against Vassar at 9:30 am.
