Diplomats Upended by Mustangs

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall dropped a 9-3 decision to visiting Stevenson in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday at Caplan Field. The Diplomats fall to 11-9, while the Mustangs move to 15-11-1 with the victory.

The Mustangs plated a trio of runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. In the top of the third, Tony Prescott pushed the Stevenson advantage to 4-0 with the first of his two solo home runs of the afternoon.

F&M got on the board in the bottom of the third as J.T. Triantos notched the first of his two RBIs in the contest. Triantos sent a one-out grounder to the right side of the infield that allowed Brian Erb to score from third base.

The Diplomats were unable to close the gap any further, however, as Stevenson compiled five runs in the fifth and six frames. Prescott added another solo shot in the fifth, before the Mustangs tallied four unearned scores in the sixth to take a 9-1 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, F&M threatened to cut into the eight-run deficit as it loaded the bases with nobody out, but could only manage to plate one runner. Aaron Gillette brought home pinch-runner Sam Gladstone from third with a sacrifice fly to center field, but reliever Tyler Anzmann then recorded two straight outs to escape the jam.

Triantos batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Erb and Alex Vescera also notched two hits and crossed home plate once.

Prescott paced the Mustangs by going 4-for-5 at the plate with two solo homers, three RBIs and three runs scored. Josh Morris went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored twice.

Brett Klatsky (0-2) takes the loss on the mound for the Diplomats. The freshman righthander recorded two strikeouts in two innings of work.

Joe Walinski (1-2) earned his first victory of the year for the Mustangs after pitching six innings. Walinski allowed one run on four hits while striking out three.
