NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Franklin & Marshall took 11th out of 13 teams at The Yale Spring Opener hosted at the Yale Course Saturday. The Diplomats were the only Division III team competing in the event that featured primarily Ivy League Institutions. F&M shot 632 through 36 holes with Villanova taking the top spot at 583.
Robert Svigals and Henry Richards both carded 158 to place 44th in the 68-player event on the par-70, 6,700-yard course. Svigals shot 84 during the first round and shaved 10 stokes during the final 18 while Richards turned in an 81 in round one and finished at 77 in final round.
Bernie D'Amato from Princeton took the top spot at 141.
Daniel Furman took 49th with 159 (84-75) while Jeremy Rubin ended with 161 (86-75). Dave Gilbert was not far behind with a 162, shooting 82 and 80 on the day.
F&M returns to action tomorrow at the two-day Mid-Atlantic Tournament.
