Box Score 2 HAVERFORD, Pa. – With three hits on April 10 and three more today, senior Malorie Sassaman became the all-time hits leader in F&M history with 161, passing the 157 of Lauren Incorvaia (2006-09). In the first game, one of the Centennial Conference's (CC) top hitters knocked two homeruns as the Diplomats fell 3-1, while the Fords also came away with game two by a score of 6-1 to earn the sweep. The Diplomats now sit at 20-10, 6-4 CC, while Haverford's record is now 16-8, 5-3 CC.
In the first contest, Schall, whose six homeruns is tied for the CC lead, hit her first four-bagger in the bottom of the third to get Haverford on the board at 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth, Lauren Touey smacked a single to right center to plate Dayle Comerford and increase the lead to 2-0.
Schnall hit her second homer of the game in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 3-0 game. The Diplomats, who struggled to find offense for the majority of the game, chipped away at the lead in the top of the sixth when Kaitlin Zampino doubled home Rachel Laufer to cut the lead to 3-1. The Fords were held scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, as too was F&M in the top of the seventh as Haverford's starting pitcher Sara Tauriello stymied the Diplomats to earn her fifth victory of the season.
Justine Lohrey (9-3) pitched well but was charged with the loss as she went five innings and gave up three runs while striking out four batters. Zampino led the offense with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate.
In the nightcap, F&M scored first when Sassaman singled to left field to score Alicia Kukoda and make it a 1-0 game. Starting pitcher Zampino cruised through the first four innings, however she ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth when Julie Garlick singled to right center to plate Touey and tie the game at 1-1. With Schnall on third and Garlick on first, Garlick stole second base and the throw down got away, allowing Garlick to go to third base and Schnall to score to give Haverford a 2-1 lead.
After the Diplomats were held scoreless in the top of the sixth, the Fords added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth when Elizabeth Newman reached on an error to plate Kristin Tatum and increase the lead to 3-1. After Touey hit a two-RBI double to left field to make it 5-1 in favor of Haverford, Schnall singled home Touey to give the Fords a 6-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh, the Diplomats went down one-two-three as Haverford earned the victory 6-1.
Sassaman led F&M with a 3-for-3 game, while Kukoda and Sam DeNoville added a hit for the Diplomats. Zampino (5-6) threw five innings and only gave up one run, however was charged with the loss.
The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday when F&M takes on Gettysburg at Baker Campus Field. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
