HARRISBURG, Pa. – Three Diplomats placed in the top five to lead Franklin & Marshall to the Messiah College Spring Classic title Thursday evening at the Blue Ridge Country Club. The tournament victory is the seventh for the Diplomats this season, which leads the nation among all three divisions.
The Diplomats finished at 300 while Messiah and Millersville tied for second with 308 in the 15-team tournament. Muhlenberg was fourth at 320 and Gettysburg took fifth with a 321.
Henry Richards claimed medalist honors with an even-par 72 to lead the Diplomats in the 75-player field. Robert Svigals tied for second with a one-over 73 and Christopher Gabriele also finished in the top-five with a fifth-place finish. He carded a 76 on the par-72, 6,615-yard course.
Daniel Furman added to the team score with a 79 and Benjamin Mitchell rounded out the F&M five with an 85.
The Diplomats return to action on Monday when F&M hosts the Spring Invitational at Bent Creek Country Club.
