Androconis K's 13 as Diplomats Win Again

Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Mike Androconis struck out a career-high 13 batters as Franklin & Marshall's baseball team improved to a perfect 7-0 on its Florida Spring Break trip with a 7-3 win against Gordon on Friday.

The Diplomats now sit at 8-4 on the season while the Fighting Scots dropped to 3-6.

Androconis was dealing throughout and opened the game by striking out five of the first six batters he faced. He improved to 3-1 on the season by allowing just one earned in seven innings of work, while surrendering only two hits.

Zachary Roberson got the scoring started for F&M in the top of the second, lining a RBI double to left center that plated Jimmy Whelan from first. The Diplomats generated two more runs in the third to go ahead by a 3-0 tally. With the bases loaded and one out, David Iacobucci reached base on an error by the left fielder, which allowed Michael Caron to cross home plate.

Christopher Vincent continued his hot hitting by following with a two-RBI double down the left field line. The Fighting Scots got a run back in the fourth with their own double down the left field line to cut the deficit to two. However, the Diplomats piled on three runs in the sixth courtesy of RBI doubles from Max Schwartz and Tyler Daley, as well as a RBI single to left field from Dan Marano, to make the score 7-1.

Gordon cut into the F&M lead with a pair of runs in the eighth before reliever Clayton Roth struck out the side in the ninth to put the finishing touches on the Diplomats' seventh-straight win.

F&M tallied 11 hits as a team, including five doubles, as the Fighting Scots managed just five hits. Daley went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a RBI and a walk from the leadoff spot. Iacobucci tallied a 2-for-5 line with one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base, while Roberson was 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.

Spring break competition continues tomorrow against Central (Iowa) with a non-conference doubleheader that begins at 9:00 a.m.
