SALISBURY, Md. - Franklin & Marshall's baseball team dropped a 10-0 non-conference contest to Salisbury, who received votes in the latest national poll, on Saturday afternoon.
The loss moved the Diplomats to 1-3 on the year while the Sea Gulls improved to 5-4.
Trailing by a 2-0 score, F&M was undone by a five-run fourth inning from Salisbury that saw the Diplomats commit two errors and the Sea Gulls tally four hits to extend the score to 7-0. F&M attempted to rebound in the top of the next frame when Max Schwartz led off with a single to center.
Following a fielder's choice, Casey Bulik notched a single to left with two outs that moved Kevin Lammers to third. However, with runners on the corners, the Diplomats' grounded out in their next at-bat to end the threat.
Salisbury continued its offensive onslaught in the bottom of the frame, tacking on another run with a two-out RBI single to right field and adding two more in the sixth inning when Kyle Canavan homered to left field with a runner on second.
The Diplomats combined for five hits on the day while Salisbury recorded 11. David Iacobucci, Jimmy Whelan, Schwartz, and Bulik each went 1-for-3, while Tyler Daley went 1-for-4 with a double.
Micah Wells (1-1) earned the win for Salisbury after tossing six scoreless frames and striking out five. Mike Androconis (1-1) was charged with the loss after allowing three earned off seven hits and striking out six in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Non-conference competition continues for F&M on Tuesday when the Diplomats travel to Arcadia for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
