Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's baseball team suffered a 15-5 loss against Hood on Thursday afternoon in non-conference competition. The defeat dropped the Diplomats' overall record to 19-17-1 on the year while the Blazers improved to 18-17.

Despite the lopsided final score, it was F&M that struck first with a Christopher Vincent RBI single in the top of the first inning. Hood's offense heated up in the third with three runs that were the result of three hits in the frame. The Diplomats kept it close with a Zachary Roberson RBI bunt single in the bottom of the inning to pull within one, before taking the 5-3 lead with a three-run fourth frame.

Shortstop Justin Cavegn and Vincent both plated runners with sacrifice flies, while Kengo Kawahara reached on an infield error that allowed Tyler Daley to score from third.

However, the Blazers followed with 12 unanswered runs, including a wild nine-run sixth inning that was the result of six hits, two walks, and an F&M error.

Hits belonged to Hood at 12-9. Michael Caron paced the Diplomat offense with a 2-for-4 effort and one run scored while Vincent was 1-for-1 with two RBIs. F&M swiped five bases, while the Blazers drew 14 walks and registered six extra-base hits.

Reliever Jake Amorello (0-1) was charged with the loss after surrendering five earned on three hits and two walks in 1/3 innings. Paul Jackson (1-1) earned Hood's win by tossing three scoreless frames out of the bullpen and striking out three.

The Diplomats return to the field tomorrow, hosting Dickinson at 3:30 p.m. for F&M's final regular-season home game of 2017.
