ABBOTTOWNSTOWN, Pa. — Stephen Colodny placed first to lead Franklin & Marshall to an unprecedented ninth Centennial Conference (CC) Men's Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon. The championship crown is the fourth straight for F&M — 14th overall — and marks the eighth time in the last 10 years the Diplomats have won the championship.
The Diplomats ended with a three-round total 893 (291-301-301) and withstood a late surge from Swarthmore who took second at 897 (303-295-299). Muhlenberg was third (903) followed by McDaniel at 913. The 54-hole event took place at the Bridges Golf Club.
Colodny led every round and ended at 219 with rounds of 72-73-74 to win his first CC Crown. He had two birdies in the opening nine and added one more on the back in the final round.
Brad Lankler tied Swarthmore's Vamsi Damerla for second place, finishing three strokes behind Colodny at 222. He fired rounds of 73-74-74 with two birdies early in the round today and picked his third career top-3 finish at the CC Championships.
Ben Mitchell finished in the top-10 in the 35-player field turning in a 226. Mitchell had rounds of 72-76-78 with three birdies in the final round. Jon Meissner and Justin Lankler finished 18th and 19th respectively for the Diplomats. Meissner shot 74-80-77 for a total of 231 and Lankler improved every round with scores of 79-77-76 for a 232.
The Diplomats earned the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III National Championship with the victory and will appear in the program's 12th NCAA Tournament. The 72-hole tournament will start on May 16th at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-HIlls, Fla.
