F&M Takes First in Team Stroke Play at Montgomery Cup

DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's men's golf team secured first place in team stroke play at Saturday's Montgomery Cup, hosted by Rosemont at the Downingtown Country Club, to qualify as the top seed out of four advancing teams for Sunday's match play portion of the tournament. The Diplomats were edged out by Farmingdale State in the Semifinal Round to close out competition at the event.

In team stroke play, F&M totaled a 596 (296-300) to take the first-place crown out of nine competing teams. York was next with a 600 total (292-308) while Lynchburg rounded out the top three with a 606 (303-303).

Ben Mitchell led the way in individual stroke play with a third-place showing out of 44 golfers after carding a 147 (73-74) at the par-72 course. Ian Murray tied for fifth with a 148 total (73-75) and Justin Lankler tied for seventh after shooting a 149 (74-75). 

Drew O'Hern took 14th with a 152 score (76-76) while Jason Koshinski rounded out F&M's competitors with a 156 (78-78). 

In the Semifinals of Sunday's match play portion of the event, F&M fell to Farmingdale State by a 3-1 score with Mitchell securing the Diplomats point over Gary Cohan. Farmingdale went on to win match play, downing Lynchburg by a 3-2 score in the finals.

F&M returns to the course on Saturday, taking part in day one of the McDaniel Invite at the Bridges Golf Club.
